black star pastry, newtown

After our meal at Brewtown Newtown, we waddled over to Black Star Pastry to try their signature strawberry, watermelon cake with rose scented cream.

strawberry, watermelon cake with rose scented cream ($7.50):

The cake itself is fresh, light and fragrant. It has two layers of almond dacquoise, fresh whipped cream, watermelon, strawberries, Iranian pistachios and rose petals. The slice of watermelon in the middle adds texture and makes the whole cake seem very refreshing. It's not sickeningly sweet and is probably one of the best cakes I've had in a while.

Now that I've tried the cake, I can see the reason as to why people are constantly queuing up at Black Star Pastry and why they've opened up a second location in Roseberry. If I'm ever in the area, I would definitely try and pick up a few slices of their other cakes and pastries.

Hi there! My name is Anna. I'm nineteen, in my second year of uni (UNSW) and born in Sydney. This blog is about my gastronomic adventures in Australia and abroad. It all started when I got new camera (Samsung Ex1) and since then, I've been mainly taking photos of food. So, I decided to document everything on this blog.

I'm still learning to take nice pictures - my camera isn't exactly the greatest but it works.

Oh, and I think we should get this out of the way (just in case you decide to unfriend me) I'm not a fan of chocolate or coffee. (Yes you saw right).

Anyway, enough about me - thanks for stopping by and I hope you enjoy!
